"And the day came, when the risk to remain in the bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom."
- Anais Nin
I always felt life deeply - the emotions in a room, the unspoken tensions, the energy beneath the surface. In my early career as a school psychologist, I tried to suppress this sensitivity, believing it was a weakness that held me back. I wore the mask of "having it all together" while inside, I was overwhelmed by everyone's energy and exhausted from trying to maintain the perfect facade. I was living life for everyone else but me, to the point where I didn't even know who I was anymore. I became an expert in people pleasing.
The turning point came when my anxiety reached a breaking point. Despite all the "right" self-help tools, including talk therapy, I hit a plateau and something was still missing. I knew there had to be a way to honor my sensitivity while feeling deeply peaceful and confident. I sensed there was a deeper part of me wanting to be heard, but I didn't know how to listen - or maybe I was afraid of what she would say due to the strong inner critic, perfectionist voice that drowned out all other voices. No matter who I tried to be or what I tried to do, I never felt enough. I later realized that it was simply because it didn't feel safe to believe I was enough, and it was that which held me back from being the authentic self my spirit was calling me to be.
